How Rewards Work

FliteGrid rewards sensor operators for providing valuable drone tracking data. The reward system is designed to align incentives: you earn more by covering airspace that's more important to the network's customers.

Phase 1: Reward Points

Before the $FLITE token launches, the network operates on a reward points system. Points are accumulated based on your sensor's data contribution and hex value, and they will qualify you for $FLITE token distribution when the token goes live.

The points system serves two purposes. First, it lets the network begin rewarding participants before the token infrastructure is launched. Second, it gives the team time to calibrate reward formulas based on real network data before locking in token distribution mechanics.

Points begin accruing when your sensor is deployed and online (starting with network launch in Q3 2026). Preorder bonus points are credited separately and are not dependent on sensor operation.

What Determines Your Rewards

Several factors influence how many reward points your sensor earns:

Hex value. The most significant factor. Sensors in higher-value hexes (near airports, critical infrastructure, correctional facilities, stadiums, etc.) earn more. See Coverage & Hex Values for details.

Coverage uniqueness. Providing coverage in a hex with no other sensors is more valuable to the network than adding redundant coverage where sensors already exist.

Data quality and consistency. Sensors that are online consistently and providing clean, validated data earn more than sensors with frequent downtime or data integrity issues.

Network contribution. As the reward formula is refined, additional factors may be incorporated, such as increased rewards for sensors tracking validated drone flights by commercial operators.

The specific reward calculation will be published before the network goes live. The goal is a formula that's transparent, verifiable, and aligned with the network's commercial value.

Phase 2: $FLITE Token

The $FLITE token is planned to launch on Solana in 2027. At that point:

  • Accumulated reward points convert to $FLITE tokens based on the published distribution formula

  • Ongoing rewards shift from points to direct token distribution

  • Revenue-based buyback begins (see Revenue Model)

  • All revenue tracked during Phase 1 is accounted for in the initial distribution and buyback

The token is the network's long-term reward and value-accrual mechanism. It's designed so that as the network generates more revenue, more value flows back to token holders through the buyback mechanism.

What the Token Is Not

The $FLITE token is a utility and reward token for the FliteGrid network. This documentation describes the planned mechanics as currently designed. Details including timing, distribution formulas, and token mechanics may evolve as the project develops. Nothing in this documentation constitutes a guarantee of future token value, and participation in FliteGrid should be based on the value you receive from operating a sensor, seeing flight data, and earning rewards, not on speculation about future token price.
