FAQ
General
What is FliteGrid? FliteGrid is a decentralized drone tracking network. Participants deploy sensors that collect drone tracking data from passing drones. That data feeds into SkySafe's airspace intelligence platform, where it's sold to government and enterprise customers. Sensor operators earn rewards based on the value of the airspace they cover.
Who is behind FliteGrid? FliteGrid is built by SkySafe, an airspace intelligence company founded in 2015. SkySafe has raised nearly $50M from investors including Andreessen Horowitz and has spent a decade building drone detection and tracking technology for military, government, and enterprise customers.
What is Remote ID? Remote ID is a federal regulation requiring all drones in the US to broadcast identifying information during flight, including the drone's identity, location, speed, and pilot location. Think of it as a license plate for the sky. The rule went into effect in March 2024. Learn more →
What is DePIN? DePIN stands for Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network. It's a model where community participants deploy physical hardware (sensors, hotspots, cameras, etc.) and earn token rewards for the data or services they provide. Projects like Helium, Geodnet, Hivemapper, and Wingbits use this model.
Who are FliteGrid's customers? SkySafe's existing customer base includes military, border security, law enforcement, airports, critical infrastructure operators, stadiums, universities, and other organizations that need drone airspace awareness. FliteGrid data feeds directly into the platform these customers already pay for.
Ordering & Shipping
How much does a sensor cost? $949 per sensor.
When will my order ship? FliteGrid sensors are planned to ship in Q3 2026. Update emails will be sent periodically throughout the fulfillment process.
Can I order more than one sensor? Yes. Each sensor earns independently based on its deployment location and data contribution.
Can I participate if I'm outside the US? Not at launch. FliteGrid sensors are currently only available for deployment within the US. Do not purchase if you plan to deploy outside the US, as the sensor will not work, and your order will be subject to standard return policies and fees. We cannot ship internationally, and orders with international shipping addresses will be cancelled. International expansion to Japan and the EU is planned for 2027.
What payment methods do you accept? Sensors can be purchased at flitegrid.io. Payment details are available at checkout.
Cancellations, Returns & Refunds
What is your cancellation policy? Orders can be cancelled for a full refund to the original payment method up until shipment. Any bonus promotional reward points are forfeited in full upon cancellation. Email [email protected] with your order number to request cancellation.
What is your refund policy? Full refunds are issued for orders cancelled before shipment. For returns within 30 days of delivery, refunds will have shipping costs and a $50 restocking fee deducted. Refunds are processed after receipt and inspection of the returned product. Crypto payments are refunded in the US dollar value at time of payment. Refunds apply only to products purchased directly from flitegrid.io. No payout or refund applies to bonus promotional reward points.
What is your return policy? Orders may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Email [email protected] within 30 days to initiate a return. Except for confirmed product defects, customers are responsible for return shipping costs, a $50 restocking fee, and any applicable taxes or duties. Bonus reward points are forfeited in full upon return. Returns apply only to products purchased from flitegrid.io.
What is your warranty policy? FliteGrid sensors are guaranteed against manufacturing defects for one (1) year from the original date of delivery. The warranty does not cover damage from misuse, abuse, accident, neglect, improper installation, unauthorized modification, tampering, or use inconsistent with the product's intended purpose. Damage from normal wear and tear, environmental factors, or operation beyond specified limits is excluded. The warranty does not apply to sensors purchased secondhand, used, or from auction/resale sites.
Rewards & Token
How do I earn reward points? Two ways: (1) Preorder bonus points are credited at the time of purchase, with higher bonuses for earlier orders. (2) Operational reward points are earned once your sensor is deployed and collecting data, based on your hex value and data contribution. Learn more →
What are the preorder bonus tiers? Tier 1 (first 1,000 units): 10,000 bonus points per unit. Tier 2 (next 3,000 units): 5,000 bonus points. Tier 3 (next 6,000 units): 1,000 bonus points. Bonuses are awarded in order of purchase. Learn more →
When does the token launch? The $FLITE token is planned to launch on Solana in 2027. Until then, participants accumulate reward points.
What happens to my reward points at token launch? Accumulated reward points (both preorder bonuses and operational points) will be included in the $FLITE token distribution. The specific conversion formula will be published before token launch.
What is the buyback mechanism? Revenue from FliteGrid data sales is used to buy $FLITE tokens on the open market. This creates a direct link between network revenue and token value. Learn more →
Sensor & Deployment
What do I need to set up a sensor? A location with a clear view of the sky, a wired Ethernet connection, and the PoE cable included with the sensor. No technical expertise is required. Learn more →
Where should I put my sensor? Rooftops, balconies, and elevated outdoor spaces with an unobstructed view of the sky work best. Sensors near airports, critical infrastructure, correctional facilities, stadiums, and other high-value locations earn higher rewards. Learn more →
Can I see the drone data my sensor collects? Yes. Every FliteGrid sensor operator gets access to the FliteGrid drone tracking platform, where you can view real-time drone activity detected by your sensor. Learn more →
Can I move my sensor after deploying it? Sensor location is verified through proof-of-location GPS data. Moving a sensor means changing its hex assignment and may affect your rewards. Detailed guidance on location changes will be available when sensors ship.
