# Deploy Your Sensor

**Note:** Detailed setup instructions ship with the sensor and will be published here when sensors begin shipping. This page covers what to expect and how to pick a good spot.

## What You Provide

Two things: **power** and **a mounting location with a clear view of the sky** inside your claimed hex. That's the entire ask.

Connectivity is built into the sensor over LTE, so there's no home internet to share, no cable to run to your router, and no Wi-Fi setup. SkySafe handles the data connection, firmware updates, monitoring, and hardware replacement if a unit ever fails.

## Deployment Steps

1. **Mount the sensor** using the included brackets in a location with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky.
2. **Connect power.**
3. **Activate the sensor** on your FliteGrid account at [app.flitegrid.io](https://app.flitegrid.io/).
4. **You're done.** The sensor starts collecting Remote ID data automatically, and your uptime starts counting toward your monthly payment.

## Placement Guidelines

Placement is the single biggest factor in the quality of data your sensor collects.

**Elevation matters.** Remote ID broadcasts are relatively short-range radio signals. The higher and more unobstructed your sensor's position, the better its reception across your hex. Rooftops are ideal. Balconies, elevated decks, and exterior wall mounts can also work.

**Clear sky view.** The sensor needs line-of-sight to the sky in as many directions as possible. Trees, walls, and buildings between the sensor and a passing drone will block or degrade the signal. Avoid enclosed or partially covered locations.

**Stable, permanent mounting.** The sensor's GPS data is used for proof-of-location verification, and your sensor only earns for the hex it was claimed in. Mount it securely in a fixed position and leave it there. If you need to relocate a sensor, contact <support@flitegrid.io> first.

## Monitoring Your Sensor

Your FliteGrid account shows your sensor's status: online or offline, and your current uptime for the month. Payment requires 95% uptime in a calendar month, so if your sensor goes offline, you'll want to know quickly. Downtime caused by SkySafe (platform outages, firmware updates, hardware failures, or LTE network issues) doesn't count against you. See [Getting Paid](/host-a-sensor/getting-paid.md) for the details.
